Placing numismatic items in history is probably my most favorite thing to do.  I recently added a piece of currency to my collection that in numismatic terms is virtually worthless. But in historical value, it is pretty nice. I acquired a one peso victory note from the Philippines. It had some writing  on the back. What I found is a list of places, and WWII battleship names. Well of course I had to investigate this and here is some of what I found. For clarification here is writing on the back of the note; "Sicily, Tarawa, Wake Island, Empress Augusta Bay,Siapan, Tinian,  Guam, Shortland Island, Okinawa, Joseph P. Ohlenbusch, U.S.S Birmingham CL62, USS Gallatin APA 169, USS LCS L 3 94"

I begin investigating and found that the U.S.S Birmingham had been to all the battles listed on the back of this note. They were also listed in the order that they were fought. So it is easy to assume that Mr Ohlenbusch wanted to chronicle his journey through WWII on the back of this victory note. Also listed was the USS Gallanin, which was a cargo transport ship, he must have been transferred to this ship. Next we have the USS LCS L 3 which is a landing craft. I have little information on The last two ships.

Filth and Wisdom release After we liberated the Philippine islands from the Japanese, the United States printed these victory notes for circulation in the Philippines. What a statement Mr Ohlenbusch made. I don’t know how he felt, but I believe it had to allow some closure for him to chronicle his efforts, on this victory note that was only made because of the  sacrifices he made in helping to bring this war to a triumphant end.  I Salute all our veterans past and present. This note may not have much monetary value, but it’s value in sparking our memories, feelings and gratitude, for the people who fight for our rights is very important to me. This note will take it’s place in my collection along with a paper with the research that was done. I will pull out this bill and hand it to a friend and tell him the story that was found. This is what makes a collection interesting.
