SG Calc

This calculator is here to assist you in performing specific gravity testing on your coins.

The test set-up here is what i call a “rough test”, because in order to get extremely accurate results you will need to purchace some elaborate equipment. So the results below will be based on the “rough test”.

if you have access to the more refined equipment, you can tell the difference between coin silver and pure silver. But, since i am not anticipating this level of equipment, the answer you will get from this calculator will just be silver in the example stated above.

Here is a checklist. Before you begin this test, check the following;

Scale: Get a digital scale from e-bay or any reliable source, The scale must have an accuracy to .01 grams and at least will accept a load of 200g or more. a scale (you should be able to get it for about $40.00 or less)
with an accuracy to .1 grams is not good enough.

Paper clip and string: Attach a plastic or rubber coated paperclip to a string about 5 inches long.

Darby O’Gill and the Little People hd Ice Age: The Meltdown release
Cup and Water: Get a small Dixie type of bathroom cup, a very small and lite cup, you don’t want to max out your scale. Next fill the cup with distilled water.

Conditions : Make sure the cup, Water, Coin and scale are all at the same temperature, this is extremely Important! if anything is not at the same temperature then you will get poor results.

Here are the steps to perform this test:

Another Cinderella Story hd
1. Weigh the coin dry, Type this value in the “Enter Dry Weight” above.

The Baker
2. Place a small cup of water on your scale. Suspend the paper clip in the water, now tare the scale.

3. Remove the paperclip from the cup of water, Attach the coin to the paper clip.

4. Submerge the coin and paperclip into the water, make sure you don’t touch the sides or bottom.

5. Enter the Wet weight in the “Enter Wet Weight” box above.

6. Press calculate and see your result.

Bad Test Result; If you received a bad test result, either the metal the coin is made of
is not in my table, or your testing procedure is wrong. Check the temperature, make sure you used distilled water, make sure you weighed the paper clip in the water prior to testing. Also
make sure you re-weigh the water and paper clip between each coin”
